Simon Cowell to release 10 musical cartoons

It seems like popular songs from animated movies such as Idina Menzel’s Let it go from Frozen and Pharrell Williams’ Happy from Despicable Me 2 have had an impact on popular TV mogul Simon Cowell.

He plans to bring out 10 new musical cartoons. “Films are a great vehicle for breaking records. Using Frozen as an example – the movie pushed the music and the music enhanced the movie. I think that’s how we’re going to work,” he said.

“These musical animations are doing great box office. From a record label standpoint, we’re always looking for different ways to sell music and do it in a cool way. This is something we dreamed of doing. But the music has to be current,” he added.

Announced last year, his first project will see him team up with Animal Logic, that worked on Happy Feet and Lego to bring back popular 1930s cartoon Betty Boop. Reports suggest that it will be a music-driven comedy. Cowell said that Betty is an icon and one of the biggest stars in the world and he is thrilled to be working with her.

The remaining nine under production have releases planned in the through 2015 to 2016. Sources claim that Simon is already in talks with Fox Studios about his new TV and movie projects.
