Quantum Gabriel developing TV Series ‘Neelkamal Laalkamal‘

Quantum Gabriel, animation studio based in Kolkata is working on a self funded 2D animation series called ‘Neelkamal Laalkamal‘. The series consists of 13 episodes of 22 minutes each, is a blend of classical and digital animation and is being made in English, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam languages. The team of 15 artists is currently working on the series which is in the pre-production stage.

Speaking to AnimationXpress.com Sabeer Ahluwalia, Director, Quantum Gabriel shares, “We have completed all the Pre-production stuff like character designing, story boarding, animatics. We want to give it a cartoony feel. Actually our team consists of a bunch of highly enthusiastic, self motivated animation buffs who assure high quality output in cartoony animation and the main reason is kid love this medium”.

‘Neelkamal Laalkamal‘ is a folk tale from the land of Bengal. It is a story about a king who had two sons, the first from a human queen and the second from a demon queen. Over time the brothers grow inseparable. One fateful night, the demon queen kidnaps them both and eats them. Immediately thereafter, she regurgitates two eggs. A farmer finds the eggs and the princes therein.

B4 Animation Studio is also working on the series along with Quantum Gabriel. According to Sabeer, B4 is responsible for the conceptualization of the series and Quantum Gabriel is handling the ‘A to Z of Production‘.

Bhairavi Sounds, Kolkata provided the music for this series. The concept is taken from ‘Thakumar Jhuli‘ (popular folk tale collection) but Sabeer asserts that the studio has modified the story. (Dakshinaranjan Mitra Majumder was the person who collected some folk-stories of Bengal and published it under the name of Thakurmar Jhuli in 1907. Over the years, it has become a household name in West Bengal and Bangladesh.)

About any tie ups with the broadcasters Sabeer says, “Yeah we did have an initial conversation with few broadcasters in the Middle East and regional channels here in Calcutta. We will take 4-5 months to complete the series. We are also looking for a partner to further produce the series”.

Currently Quantum Gabriel is working on an animated feature film and a 3D TV series along with ‘Neelkamal Laalkamal‘.
