yFX delivers seamless VFX in trailer of Ranbir Kapoor’s period drama ‘Shamshera’

Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor starrer Shamshera’s much-anticipated trailer is out. The film is a period-action revenge saga by Yash Raj Films set in the 1800s’ India under British rule, and the trailer is currently trending at the number one spot on YouTube.

Directed by Karan Malhotra, the film is based in the fictitious city of Kaza, which is ruled by a ruthless Daroga Shudh Singh, played by Sanjay Dutt, who suppresses the warrior tribe. Ranbir is the protagonist Shamshera, who is a dacoit-cum-Robin Hood saviour for his tribe. Vaani Kapoor portrays the character of a dancer Sona, the love interest of Shamshera.

The trailer takes the audience back to 1871, supported by voice-over narration, which tells us about the hero who stood up against the Britishers. Some shots show a rugged Ranbir Kapoor riding a horse and using a battle axe and in another rendition he can be seen as a jovial young man who is a crowd-pleaser. The video promises an intense conflict between the commoners and the authorities as Daroga Shuddh Singh appears on the scene, in addition to the dance moves and panoramic landscape shots.

In the trailer, some VFX-laden scenes like the landscapes, fight scenes on the train and market can be seen. YRF Studios visual effects facility yFX has worked on this movie. Shamshera looks like a blend of both epic western and vintage Hindi movies. The film is a stylistic change for Ranbir Kapoor, who is known for playing an introspective heartthrob. Not much about the plot or the characters is revealed in the trailer.

Notably, Ranbir Kapoor portrayed Sanjay Dutt’s character in his biography Sanju, which was released in 2018. Now, both are seen together starring opposite each other.

Produced by Aditya Chopra, the film also features Ashutosh Rana, Saurabh Shukla, Ronit Roy, Tridha Choudhury, and Pitobash Tripathy. The film was initially going to release in December 2019 but was delayed multiple times due to Covid-19. Shamshera is now set to release in theatres on 22 July in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
