DNEG bags seventh BAFTA in last 11 years, ‘Dune’ wins big

Rejoicing the victory at The 2022 EE British Academy Film Awards, DNEG announced that their Dune team has been honoured with a BAFTA for ‘Special Visual Effects’.

“Huge congratulations to Brian Connor, Paul Lambert, Tristan Myles and Gerd Nefzer — and all the superb talent across our studios who helped to bring Denis Villeneuve’s masterpiece to life,” DNEG wrote in an official statement.

It further reads, “This is the seventh BAFTA win for DNEG in the last 11 years, and DNEG’s second win for a Denis Villeneuve film, following a previous BAFTA win for the DNEG team for Blade Runner 2049 (2017). It also marks the second win and third nomination for overall VFX supervisor Paul Lambert, who previously won for Blade Runner 2049 and was nominated for Damien Chazelle’s First Man (2018), alongside DNEG VFX supervisor Tristan Myles. It is the first BAFTA nomination and win for DNEG VFX supervisor Brian Connor.”

This award follows our Dune team’s earlier wins at the 20th Annual VES Awards, where the team scooped four awards, including Outstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature.

“We couldn’t be prouder of our team’s amazing work and talent being recognised at the BAFTAs. A huge congratulations to all our other nominees, who were singled-out for their work on No Time To Die, The Matrix Resurrections and Ghostbusters: Afterlife, as well as all of our global teams behind our nominated projects – it’s an incredible achievement, and recognition of all the hard work, creativity, and talent they bring to their work every single day,” they said.

Apart from the Special Visual Effects award, Dune won four awards for Original Score, Cinematography, Production Design and Sound.
