Digital Domain releases VFX breakdown of ‘Loki’

Loki, an american television series created by Michael Waldron for the streaming service Disney+, based on Marvel Comics featuring the character of the same name has churned out spectacular visuals.

Recently, Digital Domain released a VFX breakdown of the shots they created with a caption that reads, “Digital Domain’s visual effects supervisor Jean-Luc Dinsdale and his team of artists produced visual effects for Marvel Studios’ Loki. For the third episode of Loki, Digital Domain created a hazy purple atmosphere, photorealistic CG meteors, explosions and fiery rocks to bring the dying planet, Lamentis, and its moon, Lamentis-1, to life. Our team also added some VFX magic to the city of Shuroo and digitally built the Arc. For a better look at the work the DD team produced for Loki, watch our latest VFX breakdown and stream Loki on Disney+ today!”

Having contributed to four major sequences in episode three, “Lamentis”, Digital Domain worked on the high-intensity meteor shower in a rock quarry at the start of the episode; an exposition sequence where Loki and Sylvie make their way to a train station via an abandoned mining town; a large sequence where Loki and Sylvie eventually get thrown off a moving train and head to the city of Shuroo; and the final scene where the planet above collapses and the city is destroyed around our heroes as they try to escape. The team also contributed to several smaller sequences in episode four that took place at various locations according to an interview given to The Art Of VFX.

Synopsis of the series is as follows :-

After stealing the Tesseract during the events of Avengers: Endgame (2019), an alternate version of Loki is brought to the mysterious Time Variance Authority (TVA), a bureaucratic organization that exists outside of time and space and monitors the timeline. They give Loki a choice: face being erased from existence due to being a “time variant”, or help fix the timeline and stop a greater threat. Loki ends up trapped in his own crime thriller, traveling through time.

The series is available to watch on Disney+.
