The ‘Dabangg’ duo Sajid-Wajid most ‘Wanted’ in animation

For over a decade and a half, after continuing to leave the audiences stunned and bewildered with their extremely catchy songs in tinsel town, the rhythmic music-director duo, Sajid -Wajid have ventured into the kids’ entertainment segment.

The ‘Wanted’ composers are now set to enthral per-teens with a catchy title track for Nickelodeon’s new TV series ‘Shiva’ beginning 9 November. Speaking exclusively to AnimationXpress.com, Wajid Ali shares his experience in working on the small screen for this particular series.

“Working with Shiva wasn’t really planned. It was when Nickelodeon was looking out for the right people who would do justice to the lyrics penned down by Gulzar sahib, that is when we came on board,” he reveals. Wajid further adds that when the veteran lyricist learnt of the duo composing the song-he too was extremely pleased and assured that the song will be justified.

On the thought process for composing the song, which took only a week in making, “While composing this song, I kept in mind the perception of my kids, as to how they would like the song and what would attract them to it,” Wajid expounds. “As artists, personal emotions play an important role in adding more intensity to enable in achieving the right composition.”

The composer, who has also performed the song, further explains that the lyrics encouraged them to compose something which is full of life and also not only lives upto Gulzar sahib’s lyrics, but also to Nickelodeon’s desire of giving it a larger than life effect, as Shiva is a superhero.

He informs, “The heroism and attitude of the character was also kept in mind while making the song. Also, what’s interesting is that usually we compose our music and the lyrics are written on the basis of our tunes, but it was challenging and exciting to justify the words penned by Gulzarji in this case, as he had already worked on the lyrics based on the character.”

Shiva is an action comedy based on a 9 year old kid Shiva living in a city called Veda, who with the help of his magical gadgets like a bicycle, a deadly watch; and his friends Reva, UD and Adi, save their city from all the evils and threats and also from the prime antagonist Jwala Singh.

On working with Nick for the very first time, a pleasantly happy Wajid beams with joy and says: “It was lovely working on something that would bring a smile across faces. Everyone at Nickelodeon was very co-operative and we are very happy to have associated with such a positive and amazing team.”
