As Netflix gears up to premier the second season of Marvel’s Iron Fist, the show’s official Twitter account today published images of a prominent antagonist from the comics Typhoid Mary, in what’s the first official look at the character.
In the first photo, we see Typhoid Mary as a formally dressed, rather commoner-like appearance while contrastingly in the second, she’s wielding a sword in her sassy assassin avatar. Fittingly, the post is captioned with the words, “You never really know someone until you see both sides”.
This is an intriguing character in the Marvel comicverse, having debuted in 1988 in Marvel’s Daredevil#254 by Ann Nocenti and John Romita Jr. Quiet like the Elektra of Daredevil season two on Netflix, Typhoid Mary is both a former lover and a bete noir of the devil of Hell’s kitchen, who possesses mainly psychic powers such as the telekinesis, pyrokinesis, mind control, besides her combat abilities like the martial arts expertise and athleticism.
Mary Walker, her alter ego, is diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder, and manifests three different avatars, such as a rather quiet and sophisticated Mary, a more savage and brutal Typhoid and finally the sadistic version, Bloody Mary. The ninja-version of the character with a brandishing sword as seen in the second image in the post was already teased at the San Diego Comic Con this year in the show’s first footage.
Marvel’s Iron Fist season two premiers on Netflix on 7 September 2018.
