For those unfamiliar, here is a brief overview of the origins of Marvel’s First Family, The Fantastic Four.
Who are The Fantastic Four?
Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby for Marvel Comics in 1961, The Fantastic Four made a strong appearance in the comic franchise by introducing the concept of realism in a fictional world.
The Fantastic Four are a team of unlikely heroes who gained their superhuman abilities after they were exposed to cosmic rays during a mishap in a test space flight. As they navigated through this transformation the four united over a shared bond of supernatural powers. With their exceptional powers and the ability to save the universe from extraterrestrial threats, they rose to fame as a face of hope.
While at university, Reed Richards often spoke of his ambitions for space travel with his friend Ben Grimm, who promised to pilot any ship Reed designed. Reed later met Susan Storm while staying with her aunt, and through her, he was introduced to her younger brother, Johnny. However, the odds were not in their favour as the funds that would have supported their dreams were withdrawn.
Determined to see it fly, Reed, Sue, Ben, and Johnny launched an unauthorised test flight. Though the mission began well, the ship’s shielding faced a failure, and all four were exposed to intense cosmic radiation before crashing back to Earth.
Ever since then the four superhumans have ventured into uncharted corners of the universe and battling threats across dimensions being on the good side.
In the upcoming film, the team is seen traversing the multiverse aboard a high-tech vessel, only to become stranded in the alternate reality of Earth-616. As their craft breaches the planet’s atmosphere, their sudden arrival catches the attention of the New Avengers. The four will now embark on a new cosmic adventure while nestled at Earth.
The film is slated for a 25 July 2025 release.
