Hello Kitty is on the case, and this time, the loot comes in a box! Idea and Design Works (IDW) Publishing, is giving its first Hello Kitty and Friends: Hello World! graphic novel a collectible twist with a mystery box loaded with variant covers, trading cards, stickers and a keychain figurine.
Hitting shelves on 16 June 2027, the graphic novel will collect issues one to four of Hello Kitty and Friends: Hello World! The standard edition, aimed at readers aged nine to 12, will retail for US$9.99, while the mystery box will cost US$29.99.
Each box will feature a variant cover starring Hello Kitty, Kuromi or Cinnamoroll, alongside four trading cards, a keychain figurine and a sheet of stickers. The catch? It is a one-time print run, with no reprints planned.
The launch marks IDW Publishing’s first blind box and the first mystery book box for Hello Kitty. The publisher is bringing the thrill of surprise collectibles to the book market, hoping to make reading as exciting as hunting down a rare variant.
IDW Publishing president of operations and associate publisher Tara McCrillis shared, “In the comics world, blind bags turned collecting into an event, with fans tearing them open together and sharing every surprise. Now we’re bringing that energy to the book market.”
Meanwhile, the story serves up a mystery of its own. Hello Kitty’s picture-perfect world takes a nosedive when My Melody, a female rabbit character from the Japanese company Sanrio, discovers that her signature bow has gone missing. Soon, other characters’ iconic accessories disappear, leaving Hello Kitty to crack the case while keeping her friends from falling apart.
Written by Mariko Tamaki and illustrated by Cody Lemieux, Hello Kitty: Hello World! launched in July 2026 after IDW announced its licensed Hello Kitty comics at ComicsPro, a non-profit trade organisation.
