Production and distribution company GKIDS announced today it will bring the highly anticipated sci-fi mystery feature Mars Express to select theatres nationwide. The debut film from Jérémie Perin was an official selection at 2023 Cannes, Annecy and Animation is Film festivals. Combining 2D and 3D animation, the film is an adrenaline-fueled stylish, smart and futuristic film noir.
Perin has previously served as producer and director on various series, such as CO2, Nini Patalo and Socks, and most recently wrote and directed the lauded Lastman series, based on the French comic of the same name. International sales are represented by MK2 Films.
GKIDS also revealed the new English language dub cast for the film. The cast includes- Aline Ruby, Morla Gorrondona, Chris Royjacker, Kiff VandenHeuvel Carlos Rivera, Josh Keaton, Roberta Williams, Sarah Hollis, Simon Gordeaux, Ben Diskin, Beryl, Fiona Jones, Jun Chow, Jun Chow 2, Jenapher Zheng, LEM and Billy Bob Thompson.
The official synopsis reads: In 2200, private detective Aline Ruby and her android partner Carlos Rivera are hired by a wealthy businessman to track down a notorious hacker. On Mars, they descend deep into the underbelly of the planet’s capital city where they uncover a darker story of brain farms, corruption, and a missing girl who holds a secret about the robots that threaten to change the face of the universe.
Mars Express was domestically released in France this past November to rave reviews, and GKIDS will release the film theatrically in a new English dub starting 3 May.
