Parijat Animations’ animated comedy series Monkey and the Bananas has been selected as one of the top six finalists at Asia Television Form Animation Pitch 2021 in Singapore.
ATF is a platform that showcases Asian originality, and exposes ideas for export and development within and outside of the region. It is open for individuals, students and small to medium sized companies with new and innovative concepts in animation, targeting kids.
Talking to AnimationXpress, producer Sangeeta Tripathi and director Atish Tripathi shared their excitement, “Very happy and surprised really. Very much honoured to be among the top six finalists at ATF animation pitch 2021. It’s a huge validation for our show. We are very excited that so many key players will get to know about the project. 2021 has been a fantastic year for us, and this is like a cherry on the cake.”
Directed by Atish Tripathi and produced by Sangeeta Tripathi and Anita Tripathi, the animation is done by Prashant Bordekar. The series is at its initial stage of production.
Monkey and the Bananas has a simple storyline about a monkey who plans to capture the bananas but bananas save themselves. The monkey is always thinking of new ways to catch them but meets with fail attempts as the bananas always make a narrow escape. There are no dialogues and it’s a visual gag based comedy show. Each episode will be of seven minutes of duration.
Commenting on the making process of the series, Tripathi said, “Right now it’s in the initial development phase where we are developing the story lines and exploring the design possibilities. Considering that it’s a visual gags based show, the writing process will be more drawing oriented where we begin with the story thread and explore the gags by staging them and sketching them out. It’s challenging but also rewarding because these stories can be enjoyed by anyone anywhere in the world.”
As the series is still under production and it may take at least another year to wrap up the show, the makers are looking forward to partnering with leading kid’s networks for broadcasting.
Revealing about the studio’s future plans, Tripathi added, “We are always looking at pushing the creative envelope and are excited by the imaginative opportunities that animation offers. We are working on couple of properties aimed at preschoolers. There is also an action adventure concept in the works. Second instalment of Captain Vidyut can also be expected in time to come.”
