Dragon Age, BioWare’s fantasy role-playing game franchise, is getting an animated series on Netflix. At its Geeked Week event on Friday, Netflix unveiled a trailer for Dragon Age: Absolution, a six-episode animated series that will premiere in December.
The story takes place in Tevinter and introduces a cast of new characters drawn from Dragon Age lore, including elves, mages, knights, Qunari, Red Templars, demons, and other surprises. Tevinter is also said to be the location for BioWare’s upcoming Dragon Age video game, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.
Based on the teaser, it appears that a new era of Dragon Age is about to begin, one that bridges the gap between gameplay and the additional novels that have been produced over the years. While it is not known when Absolution takes place, the stunning animation reflects the aesthetic that fans of the games have come to expect, all while delivering something fresh and unique that will bring the world of Thedas to a new audience.
Dragon Age: Absolution is being produced by Red Dog Culture House, a South Korean animation Studio which has previously worked on Netflix’s The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf and an episode of Love, Death and Robots. Mairghread Scott who has worked on several Transformers animated series and the animated Guardians of the Galaxy show will be the showrunner.
The release date and cast of the show are yet to be revealed by the creators.
