The Animation Wing of Mad Arts, Jaspal Bhatti Film School has done it again. After winning laurels for its first maiden venture ‘Nanhi Chidiya’, its second film ‘Bunty’s Tree’ has gone a step further and raked in international awards and nominations.Bunty’s Tree, a student’s film is directed by Jasraj Singh Bhatti, the creative director of Mad Arts. It is a silent film which says a million words about saving the environment. It is a touching story of the bond between a little boy Bunty and a Tree that grooms in the precincts of his house.
The film has been nominated at CMS Vatavaran, India’s foremost Environmental festival and Chitrakatha ‘II, the animation festival of NID, Ahmadabad, India’s most prestigious design institute. It has also made it as a final entry of four animation films out of 100 short films for the Sandfly Film Festival, Australia. The film was recently screened by the Jamestown Arts Center at an India oriented evening of films on Nov 1. The center screens films entered in the Rhode Island International Film Festival, an Oscar qualifying festival.
The film has been scripted by the humourist par excellence Jaspal Bhatti, Director, Mad Arts and the simple message the film conveys is the film’s strength. The comments of the Nomination Jury of CMS Vatavaran on the film were, ‘A short film with a simple message, it effectively conveys its message without entering into too many complexities and confusing analysis’. The film was a students project and they worked extensively on the project for almost 15 months.
The film is set in the picturesque landscape of Himachal Pradesh. The team of ‘Bunty’s Tree’ especially went to the Kinnaur region to research on the background, landscape, costumes and ambience of the area.
Jaspal Bhatti, the writer of the film felt, “Environment and the fragility of it is today a universal concern. Our wrong attitudes are making themselves felt in disturbing the ecological balance of the world we live in. So my major concern was to make an emotional story to drive home the point that we need to save the environment”.
The CEO of Mad Arts Savita Bhatti was also present on the occasion. She said that the hard work of the students was commendable because they had put in almost a year of hard work after completing their course.
