Disney Pixar’s ‘Lightyear’ experiences tough box office faceoff from ‘Jurassic World’

Disney and Pixar’s Lightyear has collected $51 million from 4,255 North American theatres.

According to reports, Disney film was expected to generate at least $70 million. After facing a tough competition from Universal’s behemoth Jurassic World Dominion and Paramount’s high-flying Top Gun: Maverick the Disney movie failed to perform at the box-office.

Lightyear is the first Pixar movie to release on the big screen in more than two years, since Soul, Luca, and Turning Red skipped theatrical releases to land directly on Disney+.

According to Forbes, Toy Story spin-off earned just $17.7 million in its second domestic weekend. The $200 million sci-fi actioner has earned $88.7 million domestic and $63.2 million overseas for a $153 million global cume.

The movie has been co-written and directed by Angus MacLane and produced by Galyn Susman, and stars Chris Evans as the voice of the titular character.
