Anifest ’05 to celebrate Animation

nullTASI (The Animation Society of India) and ASIFA-India recently announced Anifest ’05 -‘By the animators, for the animators’. Proposed as a festival which celebrates animation, the show promises to be a rocking affair. This is probably for the first time that 2 neutral bodies representing animation in India are getting together to host an event.

The sponsors for Anifest’05 include Rhythm & Hues India, Maya Entertainment Ltd and Studio Systems, the event is being organised and managed in association with Indiantelevision.com’s Animation ‘xpress.

Being held at Ramada Inn Palm Grove, Juhu, Mumbai on 16 April 2005, the proceedings for Anifest’05 include a panel discussion which will have animators (rather than management) on the panel, JAM (Just A Minute) session, screening of short films, a live performance by a rock and roll band lead by animators followed by dinner. Besides this, the venue shall have various corners dedicated to doodling, caricature and scrap books and also a display section to showcase animation art sent in by enthusiasts.

The organisers for Anifest’05 have sent out communication inviting entries for short films and animation art. These shall be duly showcased at the festival.

Speaking to Animation ‘xpress, as members of the organising committee for ANIFEST ’05 -TASI spokesman Ranjit ‘Tony’ Singh and ASIFA-India Vice President Shrirang Sathaye- said “This event is another concrete step in helping consolidate the animation fraternity. We believe that ANIFEST ’05 will promote healthy interaction and give animators and enthusiasts alike a chance to network and showcase their work. We are indeed happy that some of the leading studios have come forward to promote this event and that only through such wholehearted support can this industry look to exciting times ahead”.

While the Indian animation scenario is just about beginning to show dynamism, an initiative like Anifest’05 which has the celebration of the Animator as its central theme was long overdue.
