Do you stay on in the theatre at the end of the movie and scan as the credits roll?
Most of us in the animation & VFX community instinctively do that, and of late one observes that Indian names are more frequent on Hollywood VFX credits than ever before……..
Thanks to the good work being created by Indian facilities, and also to a lot of indviduals and companies that are trying their best to showcase India‘s work, the world is taking note of Indian Visual Effects.
From October 27 to November 2, Visual Effects Society stalwarts from Los Angeles and London including Tim Mc Govern, Eric Roth & Peter Chiang will be in India on a five city tour. Each city visit will involve an event where they will participate at and showcase world class work and talk about VES community building measures.
The VES will also interact with Indian artists and studios and observe Indian VFX work from close quarters. To quote Eric Roth, “We want to have a look at, and enjoy all the good work being done in India”
The tour has been initiated by N Madhusudhanan and is sponsored by Image, Autodesk and Pixion. It is being organised by AnimationXpress.com and has the support of ASIFA India and ABAI.
Artists, Studio Management, Students & VFX enthusiasts are all welcome to attend exclusive VES India tour events which are being organised in Chennai (29 October), Bangalore (30 October) and Mumbai (31 October) where VES as well as some of the best local VFX studios will showcase their best. Additionally, VES also has a special presentation in Hyderabad courtesy ASIFA India‘s International Animation Day celebrations (28 October), at NID Chitrikatha in Ahmedabad and will also be presenting at a panel session at NASSCOM in Mumbai on November 1
“It is an honor to work and collaborate with the VES which is the world‘s most renowned body and community of practising visual effects professionals working on a majority of the world‘s best VFX projects. We are extremely thankful to N Madhusdhanan for giving us the opportunity to organise the VES India tour and also for his continued support in the organising part. A special and big thanks to our sponsors including Image, Autodesk and Pixion for their generous and whole hearted support to this initiative” shared AnimationXpress.com Co Founder Anand Gurnani.
“A simple message to all VFX artists in India. Come forth and participate, its an event where we can celebrate our amazing field of Visual Effects, where we can network and learn from International stalwarts, where we can share with our peers and continue improving the magic that we create, which at times, is ‘photo real‘ and at times is ‘out of the world‘, “he added.
Venue details and the entire showflow will be published next week. It is apt to conclude this article by sharing what ace VFX practitioner Phani Eggone, co founder of Hyderabad based Firefly Studios had to say about the VES tour. (Phani will be presenting his studio‘s body of work at the VES showcase along with other Indian studios)
“Three cheers to all involved in making this tour happen as it has a lot of significance. Firefly is high quality, yet home grown studio started from ground up with our own self invested money, we have grown slowly and invested back into our work. While we appreciate the good work as well as marketing that a lot of the big studios can afford, we don‘t have budgets for marketing, for making overseas trips or for presenting to international studios. We are so glad that the Visual Effects Society is coming down and meeting us, its really great becuase we are confident that the work we as well as many other Indian studios do, is world class and I think that the VES will go back impressed and result in a lot of good word of mouth for Indian VFX, as they are the decision makers and influencors. I really think its a great idea and a lot of Indian visual effects people will benefit from it”
