Sony MAX is going to premiere Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Shikara for the first time on television on Sunday, 19 July 2020 at 12 pm.
Based on the exodus of the Hindu Kashmiri Pandits, Shikara is a romantic drama set against the backdrop of insurgency in Jammu & Kashmir. The official synopsis of the movie reads: Shiv and Shanti, a young couple, chronicle their love story amid the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus from Kashmir. Forced to leave their homes and live as refugees in their own country, the couple, among thousand others, struggle to keep their hopes alive.
Though the film couldn’t create a mark on the box-office, it received mixed reviews, appreciation for its distinctive plot and cinematography (by Rangarajan Ramabadran) from fans and critics alike.
Shikara is the story of resilience in the face of insurmountable odds. It is also told to be the story of pure love that remains unextinguished through 30 years of exile. The intense tale at the backdrop of the horrific exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990 tells a heart-wrenching tale. Starring debutants Aadil Khan (as Shiv) and Sadia (as Shanti) who play a newly married Kashmiri Hindu couple residing in Srinagar, in a house they had named Shikara.
The film was inspired by the book Our Moon Has Blood Clots by Rahul Pandita in many parts and was released on 7 February 2020. To depict complex imagery, filmmakers chose redchillies.vfx for post production VFX work.
