An international VFX competition launched last week at the View Conference, organised by the global creative production platform Nerdeo and Escape Studios.
Supported by Wacom and AutoDesk, the competition invites teams of students and junior creative professionals from across the world to publish a two-minute short featuring VFX, using pure compositing, a mixture of live action and CG or pure animation.
Teams have until 13 February 2022 to submit their work via Nerdeo’s ‘Post a Project’ section. Once the competition closes, an international judging panel will pick their top three entries and the winners will be announced at the VFX Festival in Spring 2022, which is organised by Escape Studios.
Prizes include Maya licenses from Autodesk and Wacom Intuos Pros, while shorts will be showcased on a number of industry-leading platforms used by VFX professionals around the world.
The judging panel includes:
- Caroline Pires – Founder of Nerdeo and VFX Supervisor
- Victor Perez – VFX Supervisor/Director
- Rebecca Clay – VFX Supervisor, UNTOLD Studios
- Ben Fischer – Industry Strategy Manager for Media & Entertainment, Autodesk
- Sara Bennett – Visual Effects Supervisor, Milk Visual Effects
Speaking at the 21st International VFX & Computer Graphics Conference, Nerdeo Founder Caroline Pires said: “Our indie community is thriving and producing very high quality film and games projects. It’s great to have Autodesk and Wacom support our vision to help connect the right talent to the right project, no matter the budget. I’m really looking forward to seeing the creations that will come out of this competition.”
Escape Studios Head of Industry Outreach Anita Gribble said: “Creating studio-ready talent is central to our mission at Escape Studios, so we’re thrilled to partner with Nerdeo on this fantastic competition that will inspire budding creatives from around the world. What better place to showcase the winners than our VFX Festival – our international gathering that brings together an awesome creative community.”
