To commemorate 100 years of Indian Cinema, FICCI Entertainment Division is all geared up for Media and Entertainment Business Conclave at Chennai from the 16-17 October’12.Media and Entertainment Business Conclave brings in a huge knowledge bank with informative sessions by Industry Stalwarts on subjects related to media and entertainment industry.
The past events of FICCI MEBC, under the dynamic leadership of Dr Kamal Hasaan, have covered various streams including Films, Television, Music, Animation, Gaming and Technology. MEBC 2012 will bring about focused sessions on Digitization for the broadcast industry and celebrate 100 years of cinema with stalwarts like Kamal Haasan, Mohanlal, Dileep, Jairam, Mamoothy and other stalwarts from the Indian industry.
The two days will also witness Keynotes from thought leaders and Creative Master Classes. Over 600 delegates including speakers, invitees, government officials, media, and diplomats are expected to grace the Conclave this year.
Here is a short glimpse of what’s in store for you at the upcoming FICCI MEBC:
Keynote speaker – Barrie Osborne, a renowned Hollywood Film Producer & Director, in his session, will talk about “A 360 degree approach to producing a global film”
Barrie Osborne is an internationally renowned US film-maker. Along with Peter Jackson and Fran Walshe, Osborne was part of the Oscar-winning team behind The Lord of the Ringstrilogy. The three film-makers won the 2004 Academy Award ‘Best Picture’ for The Lord of the Rings: the Return of the King. Barrie Osborne was involved in many Hollywood films, including The Matrix, Apocalypse Now, and The Big Chill, before working with Jackson on the ‘Rings’ trilogy. Later projects included the joint Korean-American action film The Warrior’s Way (2009). Osborne’s latest productions include The Great Gatsby (2012) and Syrup (2012).

Master class on post production of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 2) will be conducted by Nicolas Aithadi, Renowned VFX Supervisor from Hollywood
Digital Filmmaking workshop with RED
The RED workshop at FICCI focuses on removing the myth of complexity from acquisition to post when shooting with RED through hands-on demos.
The workshop will commence with a presentation show reel of work produced on RED Cameras all over the world and through a keynote, various cameras RED manufactures and the philosophy behind Digital cinema will be showcased. Also, simple cameras shoot and explain digital exposure will be conducted with explaining simple workflow for TV and FILM. RED mostly partner’s with a DI system and will demonstrate the benefits of filming RAW and the workshop will further progress with a Q and A session followed by “come and try the cameras” segment as well. Also, attendees, who have shot on RED, will be called upon to share their experiences.
Special session titled on Digital Sound Technology titled ‘Story of Sound’
This session will take the attendees through the Story of advancement in audio technology and will get a chance to hear from the Dolby cinema experts on the ‘Story of Sound’ and the evolution of cinema sound from different sound formats to the new ground breaking Dolby Atmos.
Making of Enthiran – The Robot by Srinivas Mohan, Renowned VFX Supervisor
This workshop, apart from taking us through the journey of the making of the complex graphics and special effects of Enthiran, will also cover the basics of Computer Graphics (CG) and 3D Stereoscopic vision (S3D) along with the history and concepts of 3D stereoscopy and usage areas and how CG is used in industries like Print, Education, Electronic Media (Film, TV, Mobile) etc.
