Right since the time when Mahabharat dominated the TRPs on Doordarshan, Mythological live action television shows have maintained their pull over Indian Audiences.
An interesting thing about mythological shows is the extensive usage of 2D as well as even some 3D FX with a huge volume of work being chroma, set extensions, Matte Paintings and so on.
A case in point being Triangle Films Company’s television show ‘Devo Ke Dev…Mahadev’, which has been airing on all weekdays at 8 pm, since the past 6 months on Life OK.
Mumbai based Vertex Volt which caters to all the FX needs of Devo Ke Dev…Mahadev’ has built a robust pipeline delivering a staggering
300+ Chroma and set extension shots and around 10 to 12 VFX shots per episode (12 to 15 min per day) for the show. Some episodes, around once a month even involve the usage of 3D FX. And all this in a very short turnaround time.
The team is headed by Hardik Gajjar, who is the VFX Supervisor and also the Founder of Vertex Volt.
Devo Ke Dev…Mahadev’ is a Mythological drama televised on Life OK Channel. It premiered on December 18, 2011 and airs every weekday at 8:00 p.m. (IST). The program showcases the story of Lord Shiva, and Sati, the first incarnation of his consort Goddess Shaktirespectively. It portrays Shiv’s journey from being a celibate hermit to a householder. The show stars Mohit Raina and Mouni Roy in lead roles and is directed and produced by Nikhil Sinha, Triangle Films Company.
Speaking to Animationxpress.com, Hardik Gajjar -VFX Supervisor and Founder, Vertex Volt said,” In August last year, we were first approached by Triangle Films Company with the concept of the show. We first started work on the VFX of the show in October; working on the VFX of a television show is always a great challenge as finishing the VFX for one entire episode with strict and tight deadlines. Also, it takes skill, patience and management to get things done in an appropriate and organized manner. The other challenge is to sustain the quality of the work and not let it suffer under any circumstances for instance the Virbhadra fight sequence telecasted in April 2012 was a tough one as it took a lot of hard work and efforts from our entire team but it finally paid off.”
“The TRP of the show went up after this sequence which motivated us to work even harder, my entire team has always delivered and has never let me or the viewers down.” He added.
“Also, as an artist we have all the freedom to experiment and explore especially when it is for a Mythological series. We do enough research and development in order to work on a particular shot. Working for a television show is hectic as constant work is going on from one episode to the other but it’s a good challenge for us.”
It has been a fun experience working on the show till now and we hope to entertain the viewers in the future as well. Currently we are planning to start our own Production house in the Indian film industry. Our main interest is in Fantasy, Epic and Sci-FI movies” shared Hardik.
Elaborating more on the show Nikhil Sinha of Triangle Films who is the- Co Producer and Director, ‘Devo Ke Dev…Mahadev’ said “I am very happy to see that the show is doing well, the people behind the success are Aniruddha Pathak, who is the Concept developer and channel head of Life Ok ,Hardik Gajjar the VFX Supervisor of the show and the entire team of ‘Devo Ke Dev…Mahadev’.
It has been a great experience working on the show. There are 2 aspects of every concept, Emotional and Technical Visualization. The reason I believe behind the show’s success is that the human relations portrayed in the show has connected with the audience and also the technology used by us is of the best quality.
We have tried to create something different for the television industry, we wanted to create a new benchmark, a new direction and we hope to continue the good work in the future.” he concludes.
