Autodesk, Inc. the world’s leading design software and digital content company, recently announced the launch of its Center of Excellence (CoE) in Architecture Design at one of India’s premiere architecture institutes; Sir JJ College of Architecture, Mumbai.
The launch of the first of its kind CoE is part of Autodesk India’s education initiative, which is aimed at equipping India’s new generation architects with world-class 3D model-based design capabilities. Autodesk also plans to set up a similar CoE at the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi.
Autodesk’s CoE in architecture design comprises a state of the art laboratory equipped with the latest version of Autodesk’s 3D design software for the architecture, urban design, building technology and industrial design industries. The CoE will serve as a learning center to educate both faculty and students on the use of 3D model-based design software such as Autodesk Revit Building, Autodesk Civil 3D , Autodesk Inventor Professional and serve as a hub for hands on training and seminars on latest design software from industry stalwarts.
Going forward, Autodesk plans to extend its partnership with institutes and universities across India by exploring CoEs in the areas of Industrial Design, Construction Management, Animation and Special Effects.
Jon Pittman, Senior Director, Strategic Research, Autodesk Inc., said, “As a leader in design software, it is our endeavor to provide faculty and students the facility to learn, share and create new age architecture designs. With a single minded focus on moving the industry from 2D to 3D technology, Autodesk’s CoE will enable students to smoothly transition from 2D drafting to key areas of inter disciplinary focus such as building information modeling, civil modeling and lifecycle management.”
Commenting on the occasion, Rajiv Nair, Regional Head, Autodesk India said, “Autodesk’s CoE initiative is in keeping with the company’s vision to empower India’s enormous talent pool. With India fast emerging as a large design outsourcing hub, there is an immediate need to equip the country’s current generation of architects on 3D concepts. Autodesk, as the defacto market leader in the CAD market is in a strong position to work with influential architecture institutes, developing curriculum and courseware to equip tomorrow’s workforce with cutting edge design technologies and best practices.”
Professor Rajan Lakule, Principal, Sir J J College of Architecture, Mumbai said, “With the Indian government’s renewed focus on infrastructure development as a means to spur the growth of the economy, we forecast a growing need of qualified architects who are trained in inter disciplinary areas of urban design and building technology. Autodesk’s tie up with us is an indication of our close ties with industry and a reflection of the impact we can have on the community. We look forward to Autodesk’s support to educate students and faculty as they become the leaders and customers of the future”
