Mattson Tomlin completes script of film starring Keanu Reeves based on ‘BRZRKR’ comic series

The script for the upcoming Netflix film BRZRKR, starring Keanu Reeves, has been completed, according to screenwriter Mattson Tomlin.

Tomlin shared a picture of the title page of the BRZRKR script on his Twitter account. He posted a snapshot of what looks to be the last page of the script before sharing the image of the title page.

The movie will be based on the BRZRKR comic book series that Ron Garney and Keanu Reeves initially wrote and illustrated. Reeves defined the comic’s protagonist as “cursed by violence attempting to figure out who he is” in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con 2022. In March 2021, the movie and a Netflix anime spinoff series were first introduced. Both the live-action movie and the anime series will have Reeves in the lead role as the titular character, also known as B.

The makers announced Tomlin as the screenwriter for the BRZRKR movie in October 2021. He has been able to achieve success through his recent projects, one of them being The Batman, starring Robert Patinson as the Batman which was directed by Matt Reeves. As of now, the film hasn’t approached any director to be on board. The BRZRKR film is set to be distributed by Netflix, but does not have a release date yet.

Yet to be released Keanu Reeves ‘BRZRKR #1’ comic becomes #1 selling book

BRZRKR #1 is about to be the highest selling comic in years. It has been revealed that sales on the first issue have seemingly set a record. 600k copies sold already! For the upcoming 12-issue limited series, the John Wick actor, Keanu Reeves co-writes the book with Matt Kindt (Mind MGMT). Ron Garney (Wolverine) and Bill Crabtree (BPRD) are providing art and colours whereas Clem Robins (Hellboy) is the letterer.

Previously kickstarted ahead of its BOOM! Studios publication, the upcoming BRZRKR #1 is on its way to leave a huge mark on the comic book industry. Ron Garney who has drawn the first six pages of the comic took to Facebook to reveal that sales on the first issue have seemingly set a record.

He writes: “Brzrkr #1 has surpassed over 600,000 copies— thank you to everyone for the amazing enthusiasm and support for this project on behalf of myself, Keanu, Matt K, Ross, Eric, Bill, Filip, Stephen, Matt G and all of the stellar people at Boom!”

BRZRKR #1 has already outsold the popular comic book Crossover ahead of its Final Order Cut-off (FOC), which was a megahit last year. The portal’s report also suggests that Keanu Reeves’ BRZRKR #1 will be heading to Final Order Cut Off (FOC) this weekend. It has seemingly surpassed Dark Nights: Death Metal #1 and has become the highest selling comic since Star Wars #1 in 2015 which sold over one million copies.

BRZRKR #1 also marks the highest-selling Boom! Studios comic since the Big Trouble in Little China/Escape From New York #1 crossover which nabbed 421k copies when it debuted in October of 2016. The series blew its past goal, closing in on $350,000 in less than 24 hours.

The comic book series BRZRKR focuses on a man named Berzerker, who will be depicted as an immortal half-man and half-God. The character will be bearing a striking resemblance to the Canadian actor Keanu Reeves himself. The official description of the upcoming comic book series, according to the website of Boom! Studios, reads: “The man known only as Berzerker is half-mortal and half-God, cursed and compelled to violence…even at the sacrifice of his sanity. But after wandering the world for centuries, Berzerker may have finally found a refuge – working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, Berzerker will be granted the one thing he desires – the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence…and how to end it.”

BRZRKR #1 goes on sale on 24 February 2021 from BOOM! Studios.
