Russ Gautier, known for ‘Lisey’s Story’, joins Territory Studio as creative director

Territory Studio announced the addition of acclaimed creative director Russ Gautier to their rapidly growing team in San Fransisco. Russ has a breadth of professional experience working in motion graphics and recently received an Emmy nomination for his title design work on Apple TV series Lisey’s Story.

“I am thrilled to see Russ join the team. His outstanding experience applying motion graphics and CG across Film, TV and digital product aligns perfectly with Territory’s growth proposition. Russ fits seamlessly into a multidisciplinary studio like ours,” Territory San Francisco’s co-founder Marti Romances said.

“I am really excited to join the team at Territory – with such an incredible legacy as a creative studio, it feels like the perfect next step in my motion graphics career. Territory’s commitment to embracing new technologies and mediums is a huge attribute that leads to a level of project variety that creatives rarely get to experience. I hope to help reinforce this innovation and creativity,” said Territory Studio creative director Russ Gautier.

After graduating with a BFA in graphic design at VCU (Virginia Commonwealth, Richmond), Russ took on his first motion graphics role at The Martin Agency, creating in-store advertising for Walmart. Over several years, Russ went on to grow the motion graphics department in the agency, leading in the scalability and strength of design.

Russ went on to work freelance on commercials in New York before joining Perception as an art director, later becoming its associate creative director. He had the opportunity to work on main titles, title sequences, and visions of futuristic technologies for many films such as Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Batman v Superman, Spiderman: Far from Home and many of the Avengers films.

Russ has also taught motion graphics, design, and VFX at VCU and SVA (School of Visual Arts, Manhattan), as well as online through Greyscale Gorilla and Rebelway. Now joining the Territory team as creative director, Russ will continue to lead on some of the biggest motion graphics projects – stay tuned for more of his exceptional work.
