Yash Raj Films (YRF) which has films like Dil To Pagal Hai, Gunday and Kill Dil and many more under its banner, is set to start its own independent VFX division, titled ‘yFX’.
The production house is known to produce VFX inclusive films like Dhoom 3, Gunday and Detective Byomkesh Bakshy in the past and therefore has decided to venture into the space independently.
The new division ‘yFX’ will kick start its work in the upcoming film Sultan directed by Ali Abbas Zafar by delivering the visual effects for the project. Produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films banner, this film features Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma.
Yash Raj Films, finance and business affairs, vice-president, Akshaye Widhani said, “The Indian film industry is pushing the envelope with every film, and visual effects will play a bigger part than ever before in Indian cinema. Like Hollywood films, Indian films too will become an event by itself which means more effects and larger than life imagery! This state-of-the-art facility will be housed in YRF Studios making YRF a fully integrated studio in every sense of the word.”
With yFX, the Indian visual effects industry finally comes of age, observed yFX’s creative director, Pankaj Khandpur. Well, the entertainment mother company called Yash Raj Films established by veteran filmmaker Yash Chopra has other divisions in terms of music, television and store; and with this new VFX studio, the production work will multiply at a different tangent altogether.
Considering the current trend, a number of production houses have ventured into the visual effects space by creating their own VFX division in terms of a studio to ease their work load and deliver thorough quality projects. To name a few, Reliance Entertainment has its own VFX wing called Reliance MediaWorks, Red Chillies Entertainment has Red Chillies VFX, Ajay Devgn Films has its own VFX division called NY VFXwaala while Drishyam Films recently launched its VFX studio called Drishyam VFX. And now, with a well renowned veteran production house like YRF venturing in this space with its new VFX wing ‘yFX’, definitely the path is already paved for production and VFX houses to walk together and revolutionise the film industry in the near future.
