Xbox Games Showcase 2024: From ‘Doom’ to ‘Fable’, here’s what to expect

Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase 2024 was a spectacle of thrilling announcements and gameplay reveals, covering a wide array of genres and franchises. If you’ve missed it or are living under a rock, no worries cause we’ve got it covered. From innovative indies to blockbuster titles, here are the major announcements:

Doom: The Dark Ages 

Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PC, Xbox Game Pass, PS5

The Doom Slayer has returned, this time in a prequel to Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal (2020). Doom: The Dark Ages is set in a medieval kingdom overrun by the forces of hell. This entry is stated to be the origins of the Doom Slayer set to unravel the earlier days of his demon-slaying crusade. Equipped with a chainsaw shield and the iconic Doom shotgun, the slayer is back in all his glory sometime in 2025.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 

Platforms: Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, PC, PS4 & PS5

This entry in the critically acclaimed Black Ops franchise by Treyarch promises a dark and gritty storyline set in a post-Cold War era with fast and frantic gameplay, a new refined Omnimovement system that redefines the way operators move, and huge mission variety than ever before. That’s not all. It also has the signature multiplayer modes that Call of Duty is known for and to compliment it, Black Ops 6 also brings back the fan-favourite round-based zombies mode with a brand new storyline. The game releases on 25 October 2024.

Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred Expansion

Platforms: Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, PS4, PS5

The first expansion, set immediately after the events of Diablo IV, follows the storyline of Neyrelle, who is struggling from Mephisto’s hold over her soul. Expanding upon the main game, you get to explore Nahantu, a lush jungle with more dungeons, demons, strongholds, and other foes trying to end you. This highly anticipated expansion will be available to play on 8 October this fall.

Perfect Dark

Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, PC

Play as agent Joanna Dark as she unravels a major criminal conspiracy that endangers the lives of millions across the world in this current-gen reboot of the popular N64 video game. The release date is yet to be announced, but its developer, The Initiative, has promised to reveal more details as the development progresses.

South of Midnight

Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, PC

The game follows the story of Hazel, a teenage girl journeying to rescue her mother as she discovers a terrifying web of Folklore and secrets about her family while finding her true identity. The game has a unique art style and is based on Southern gothic folklore and is made by the creators of Contrast and We Happy Few. There isn’t a concrete release date yet, but we’ll hear more as development continues.

Fable

Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, PC

Venture into Albion with glittering current-gen graphics and a brand new storyline by Playground Games, the developers of the beloved Forza Horizon series on Xbox. Discover a world where nature and magic live in perfect harmony as you battle colossal creatures and explore fantastical places. Fable releases around 2025.

Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl

Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, PC 

Play as Skif – a mysterious stalker, and discover the various mysteries of Chernobyl in this hyper-realistic first-person shooter exclusive to Xbox consoles and PC at launch. While details about the plot are sparse, players can look forward to the game on 5 September 2024.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, PC

The next generation of the consumer flight simulator is upon us. This release includes aircraft types such as hot air balloons, airships, and even gliders and new weather scenarios such as tornadoes, snow, auroras, and game modes such as live animal herding and flight tracking as well. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is set to release on 19 November 2024.
