Warner Bros. Pictures Animation ‘The Cat in the Hat Theme Song’ for their upcoming animated feature

Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and WaterTower Music have released The Cat in the Hat Theme Song, an original song at the center of The Cat in the Hat, the studio’s first full-length feature film and the beloved character’s animated theatrical feature film debut, in theaters and IMAX on 6 November.

Written by Tim Minchin and performed by Fitz & Tim Minchin featuring Bill Hader as the Cat, the track is produced by Grammy Award winning composer Lorne Balfe and Minchin. Balfe also composed the film’s score. The full soundtrack album arrives from WaterTower Music on 30 October 2026.

The song is exactly what its subject would want it to be, which is to say a piece of self promotion with a horn section. It is the Cat’s own theme, written from the inside out, and it sets the tone for a film built by artists who were given room to play.

Minchin, the Olivier Award winning composer and lyricist behind Matilda The Musical, wrote the song from the Cat’s point of view. Balfe produced the instrumental bed and the track features Fitz, the Los Angeles singer and songwriter who fronts Fitz and The Tantrums, alongside Minchin and Bill Hader in character as the Cat. Vocal production is by Sam Farrar, with additional production by Sam Farrar and Ritch Aitken.

“To be able to be a part of Cat in the Hat is a dream come true.  It’s a through line from my childhood to my kid’s childhood.  And hopefully it earns me a few cred points with them,” said singer and songwriter fitz.

“I love this beautiful reimagining of the story of The Cat In The Hat, and was pumped when the team asked me to write his song. The question we asked ourselves was, “if The Cat (being a genius, but perhaps not exactly a gifted songwriter!) made up a little theme tune to sing to himself when he was on his missions, what bonkersness would he come up with? And how would we lowly humans then translate that bit of Cat insanity into an absolute banger?,” songwriter Minchin pointed out.

“From the first conversation, we knew the Cat in the Hat had to have his own special and exciting soundtrack that reflected his fun personality. He is an agent of chaos, a lover of joy and silliness, and a fan of singing his own theme song. Tim gave us that hilarious and addictive song, Lorne built a live band around it that sounds like it is having just as much fun as the Cat as they try to keep up with his energy, and then Fitz and Bill got in a room together and the whole thing took off!  We’re so proud to have a theme song that is just as fun and irresistible as our Cat,” said directors Erica Rivinoja and Alessandro Carloni,

“Music is such an important part of the world of Cat in the Hat. From the very beginning, the focus was on creating something that captured the wonderfully anarchic spirit of the character while staying true to the imagination and wit of Dr. Seuss,” said producer and composer Lorne Balfe.

In the wonderfully whimsical tradition of Dr. Seuss, The Cat in the Hat comes to the big screen in his animated theatrical feature film debut, an all new, epic adventure with an edge, where mischief, magic and mayhem reign supreme. Doing what he does best, the Cat, voiced by Bill Hader, spreads joy to kids in his hilarious, signature and singularly irreverent way, transporting them and audiences on a fantastical journey through a world they have never seen before.

Starring alongside Hader are Matt Berry, Quinta Brunson, Xochitl Gomez, with Giancarlo Esposito, and America Ferrera. Tituss Burgess, Bowen Yang, Paula Pell and Tiago Martinez also part of the star cast.
