Disney confirmed that it will be closing Rafiki’s Planet Watch, with the last day of the land on 20 October. The land on the Wildlife Express Train from Harambe in the park’s African section is accessed by visitors. Inside the land, they can explore the Conversation Station, Affection Section petting zoo and the Habitat Habit nature trail, which will be closing with the land.
According to the TEA/AECOM Theme Index attendance report, Disney’s Animal Kingdom attracted 12.5 million visitors last year, making it the second-most-visited Disney World theme park, behind the world-leading Magic Kingdom. Animal Kingdom was the fourth Walt Disney World Resort theme park to open, debuting on Earth Day, April 22, 1998.
Last week, Disney World announced the addition of activities to mark the 25th anniversary of “The Lion King,” including a dance party set to debut Jan. 18. Disney has not announced replacement attractions for the area, but the Rafiki’s Planet Watch will remain open for cast members working on Disney’s animal-care team.
