After their previous successful musical hits like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Alice in Wonderland, Disney is all geared up to develop another classic, ‘Mary Poppins’ into a musical movie.
The project shall be handled by director Rob Marshall and producers John DeLuca and Marc Platt will handle the project for the Studio. The film that shall not be exactly a sequel, it will continue Mary’s adventures with the Banks family and shall take place 20 years after the original Mary Poppins that released in 1964. The Songwriters from “Hairspray” and “Smash” have been roped in for the new while David Magee (“Finding Neverland,” “Life of Pi”) shall be working on a screenplay for the film, which will make use of material from the Mary Poppins book series by PL Travers.
Disney seems to be on a spree of remaking its animated classics as live-action films beginning with Cinderella early this year which managed to garner $542 million worldwide. Earlier it was speculated that Anne Hathway was highly considered to be roped in to play the lead role but fresh updates add on that Emily Blunt too is highly anticipated for the same.
