Villainous Deathstroke to be played by Joe Manganiello in Batman standalone film

One of the biggest update was revealed on Twitter by Ben Affleck – famously known as Batman – on 29 August which went on to go viral, giving DC fans another clue to his standalone film. The star and executive producer of the upcoming Justice League film uploaded a footage which starred Deathstroke in it.

After leaving fans to ponder on who will be playing the nefarious role Slade Wilson, finally DC executive Geoff Johns took the mask off of the villain. The actor known for his role as a werewolf in True Blood TV series, Joe Manganiello will be donning the suit of Deathstroke in the Caped Crusaders solo movie confirmed Wall Street Journal.

Earlier Affleck who’s set to executive produce, write, star and direct himself, had earlier mentioned to ComicBook: “I have a script,” Affleck said. “We’re still working on it and I’m not happy enough with it yet to actually go out there and make a Batman movie, which I would have the highest of standards I would say.”

Currently we know that shooting for Justice League film is taking place in London where Manganiello was spotted, however when asked if Deathstroke will have a cameo in it, Johns refused to comment on that.

Deathstroke (Slade Joseph Wilson) was created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez who’s mercenary and assassin who first appeared in The New Teen Titans (vol. 1) #2. Over time, DC writers established parallels between him and Batman, as well as his grudge against Green Arrow. Deathstroke appeared on The CW’s live action TV series Arrow, where he is portrayed by Manu Bennett.

This won’t be the first time that Manganiello will be starring in a comic based movie. He was earlier seen as Flash Thompson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy; however this would be the first time he would play the role of a supervillain.

The Batman solo feature isn’t expected to release before 2018. So we will have to wait till 16 November 2017 when Justice League would hit the theaters to see if Deathstroke will make his presence felt in it.
