Indian animation feature films hitting the theatres is always a pride to our nation. Recently, we heard that Motu Patlu would hit the big screens for the first time with their animated feature Motu Patlu: King of Kings on 14 October, 2016.
The anticipation for the movie was fulfilled to a certain extent with the trailer launch of the movie by actor Sushant Singh Rajput this morning at PVR, Juhu.
The opening sequence of the trailer grabs your attention as it opens a peaceful merry jungle scenario. But the joy is short lived as the peace of the jungle and its creatures is disrupted by a cruel villain who claims to be a hero.
The entry of the Lotpot comic magazine characters ‘Motu’ and ‘Patlu’ or rather the engaging background music during their entry entertains you. Running for their lives in their very own Furfuri Nagar, the duo encounter a lion who they eventually befriend.
The best part of the trailer is that it discloses a number of strings of the story. For example, it begins with a peaceful jungle, moves to the disruption then suddenly shifts to the characters with the lion’s backstory and finally comes back to the jungle leaving an unsolved mystery whether the lion will fight for his fellow animals and protect his jungle or remain a naive tamed circus puppet.
However despite all of these strings, the basic storyline of the movie is something which we have heard or seen in the past. A tale of protection of his own home, destruction of the jungle or a lion being a powerful fighter is not a whole new concept. But with the characters Motu and Patlu, probably we can expect a twist in the tale.
The animation in the opening scene looks quite pleasing as the waterfall and the birds add beauty to the whole setting. As the trailer progresses, some portions of animation may appeal only to kids and if the target audience is just kids then definitely this is in favour of the creators. All said and done, it is just a trailer so it is too early to judge for we never know how the movie might surprise us all just as the characters have done on the television space till date.
The highlight of the trailer is the music composed by Vishal Bhardwaj and lyrics penned by Gulzar. The movie is produced by Viacom 18 Media and Cosmos Entertainment and Maya Digital Studios. The creators of the movie are of the opinion that since the characters Motu and Patlu have a long standing resonance in various aspects like Comics, Broadcast, Games and Merchandising, both the young and old will strike a connection with the characters.
Directed by Suhas D Kadav with producers Ketan Mehta, Deepa Sahi and Anish JS Mehta, the story of the movie is written by Niraj Vikram, Suhas D Kadav and Dheeraj Berry. Motu Patlu: King of Kings will hit the screen on 14 October, 2016.
