AMD recently held a lavish product launch to showcase some great professional and consumer- level graphics cards, where Raja Koduri, Corporate Vice President (CVP), AMD visual computing was also present to explain the benefits of these technological advancements.
During his presentation he also spoke about the opportunities that exist in visual effects in the movie business and Indian cinema, he also showcased an audio-visual of the famous filmmaker from down south, S.S.Rajamouli, who has created some remarkable works like Student No. 1, Sye, Magadheera, Eega and is now working on the mega budget Baahubali, speaking on the VFX industry and how its progressing over time.
“We at AMD want to expand swiftly in Bollywood and have already made a mark in the Telugu film fraternity. There is a lot of money that they can be earned by leveraging the big and fat Indian movie industry and we are excited about it. We want to quickly engage with big movie houses to use AMD’s FirePro solutions,” Raja added.
The worldwide VFX movie business is approximately worth $1 billion, but Raja feels that the figure will go up to $1.2-$1.3 billion very soon and India will play a major role in contributing to the extra $200-$300 million being added to the industry.
“We are already educating movie production houses in Mumbai and other city in India, on the solutions AMD has and why one should employ us. The W-9100 is available for about $4,500 and is one of the best solutions in the market for visual effects. Built for workstations the new age Hindi cinema can use these, get trained by our team, and also get after sales support to produce the same kind of visual effects a Hollywood film is able to,” Raja expounded.
Raja is upbeat about the Indian movie fraternity and all set to explore the opportunities that exist for AMD here. Will the company be able to set up its shop in the Bollywood industry? Only time will tell, but there is certainly a plan in place with a right motive!
