Ubisoft Pune develops ‘Care Bears – Belly Match’; soft-launched in Aus-NZ

Ubisoft has been known to be developing state of the art games since 1986 and with the current trend of every big player in the industry testing waters on the smallest screen, Ubisoft too is jumping onto the bandwagon.

With games like Trials Frontier, Nutty Fluffies Rollercoaster doing really well on the app stores along with many of its flagship games like Assassin’s Creed, Just Dance, Far Cry and Prince of Persia already on the mobile phone, one of Ubisoft’s many studio owned across the globe – Ubisoft Pune is now concentrating on creating mobile games based on a free to play model, and the first game the studio is soon releasing worldwide is ‘Care Bears – Belly Match’, a match three game which is entirely developed within the Pune outfit.

Soft-launched currently in Australia and New Zealand region, the game is based on the popular characters from Care Bears, a group of multi-colored bears created by American Greetings Corporation. Care Bears as a brand, has been around for more than 40 years starting out as brand of toyline in 1981 then branching out to animation features on television and films and also games.

Ubisoft forum has a thread about the game – which reveals that the gameplay will require one to match the belly badges of the Care Bears. And each level has objectives to complete with limited amount of moves in each level and collect stars to complete each level.

The game has minimal lives (to be specific five) and one loses a life every time you fail to clear a level and each life gets refilled every 20 minutes or can be refilled with the premium currency or request ‘social friends’ for more lives.

The game is currently on a free-to-play model and will continue to be so when the game releases – according to sources – in the next one or two months globally. Soft-launched on iOS, the studio plans to develop an android version soon as well.

Ubisoft Pune previously has been part of the Just Dance development team and with this mobile game is looking to be the premier mobile game development studio for the company. They have a strong team of 50 people working on the mobile division and this will be their first test in the competitive cut throat world of mobile gaming.
