Ubisoft bullish about Virtual Reality; Games coming in 2016

With Facebook backed Oculus ready to roll out next year, and Samsung’s Gear VR already out in the market, the virtual reality headsets are making waves in the industry with more and more backers for the platform.

French game publisher and developer Ubisoft is one more believer in virtual reality and now planning to make some of its titles VR ready by next year.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot made this announcement during the financial earnings call, saying that “We believe a lot in virtual reality because we see that it is really giving a chance for gamers to be more immersed in worlds, and we are developing a certain number of games that are going to take advantage of these new possibilities.”

“We are working on the different brands we have to see how we can take advantage of those new possibilities, but making sure also we don’t suffer from what comes with it, which is the difficulty to play a long time with those games.”

“We are very bullish about the potential. We think it is going to bring more players to the universe of video games, and we are going to come with our brands. We will have a few titles in the first year and we will have regular games coming following that.”

No details were revealed about what titles would get VR treatment by Guillemot but Ubisoft has franchises such as Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed, and even Watch Dogs which would be a delight to enter this game environments with an immersive experience.

Taking a step forward, its moving away from the last-gen console support and will no longer will be developing games for PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 games outside of the Just Dance series. The studio’s focus will now solely be on the current consoles and PC without having to worry about the developing for legacy systems saving both costs and time.
