Turner Broadcasting UK is launching the free-to-air truTV general-entertainment channel in the UK this summer.
The 24-hour channel will have a good mix of original and unscripted programming focused on real people and real situations. The lineup boasts of shows like: Fear Factor, Hardcore Pawn: Chicago, Killer Karaoke, Container Wars, South Beach Tow, Redneck Island and Ink Masters.
The channel is already available in US, where it reaches nearly 93 million homes. The UK channel will build on the pipeline of that content with a slew of acquisitions in partnership with production houses such as Endemol and Zodiak Rights.
Turner Broadcasting director of general entertainment for UK and Ireland Jemma Yates said in a realease: “truTV is larger than life compulsive viewing. The channel invites the audience into the worlds of real people in real life situations and gives them a chance to experience the often dynamic, amazing and always entertaining situations that ensue.”
“truTV shows real-life comedy featuring incredible characters in real-life situations, a formula that is enjoying ever-increasing popularity worldwide. We are extremely excited to be carving out a place for this unique proposition as a dedicated free to air channel in the UK. The channel will also widen Turner Broadcasting’s general-entertainment portfolio, extending our reach to 26 million homes in here. We look forward to further building our channel strategy in this market,” added Turner UK GM Anthony Lukom.
