‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ trailer: “Two species at war, one flesh, one metal”

“It has been said through the ages, without sacrifice, there can be no victory.”

And so begins the first trailer of Transformers: The Last Knight. Interspersed with scenes from earlier ages with cavalries laced with spears and shield charging each other to modern armies facing off with guns, the trailer finally comes to what seems like a post-apocalyptic age on earth, with broken buildings and fires raging throughout.

This would be the direct sequel to to Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014). The new trailer seems to explore the origin and lore of Transformers. Featuring Anthony Hopkins, Tyrese Gibson, Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel, Stanley Tucci, John Turturro, and others, the trailer shows off a frozen, rusted body of Optimus Prime, the leader of the Autobots floating in deep space with Anthony Hopkins narrating, “Optimus Prime has left us”.

Soon the camera pans to a worried Mark Wahlberg (Cade Yeager), as something dark, distorted and gigantic is shown nearing our moon. The sequences from there are filled with shootings, bots facing off and more shooting.

However, in the end, Optimus Prime, who is back (somehow), can be seen fighting Bumblebee and winning and before he strikes the coup de grace, he says, “Forgive me”.

The trailer is surely to raise a lot of speculations of what could be, but that’s all we can resort to for now.

The VFX in the movie are created by Industrial Light & Magic, MPC and Atomic Fiction.

Directed by Micheal Bay, Tansformers: The Last Knight would be the fifth film in the decade-old franchise and is slated for a 23 June, 2017 release.
