Trailer of ‘Joker’ sequel ‘Folie à Deux’ out

The official trailer of Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga starrer Joker: Folie à Deux is out on YouTube. The film is the sequel to 2019’s Joker.

Phoenix plays the well known titular character Joker while Lady Gaga plays Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie à Deux. The film will reportedly feature Arkham Asylum, a fictional mental health facility based on the DC Comics which houses many of the DC Universe’s villains.

The film will hit theatres worldwide on 4 October 2024, and has already premiered at the Venice Film Festival where Joker had won the Golden Lion award back in 2019. Todd Philips will be returning as the director for the sequel along with being a co-writer with Scott Silver and the co-producer with Bradley Cooper.

The supporting cast of the sequel include the likes of Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland and Harry Lawtey with Zaszie Beetz returning as Sophie from the original film. The sequel is touted to be a musical, and it is said to feature Phoenix’s manic dancing from the original film.

Just like Matt Reeves’ Batman: Part II, Joker: Folie à Deux will be a standalone film. Both these movies will not be part of the DC Studios films from James Gunn’s and Peter Safran’s slate that include the upcoming Superman film. Gaga’s Harley Quinn will also be a separate character from her DCEU (DC extended universe) and Max original animated series counterparts.

The first film Joker was nominated for 11 Oscars, with lead actor Phoenix winning the best actor award and Hildur Guðnadóttir winning for the best original score. It also became the highest grossing R-rated movie in history.
