Star Wars will reboot its franchise with a movie releasing this year but the work on the next is already under way. Still untitled Star Wars: Episode VIII is nearly two years away from take-off but the cast hunt for the movie is already at advanced stages. One of the actors who may be headed for the sci-fi follow up is the Oscar-winning actor Benicio del Toro. He is mostly been offered to play the antagonist, but a deal hasn’t yet been struck.
Awarded an Oscar for the film Traffic, Del Toro is already an experienced candidate when it comes to Disney genre films set in space: he played The Collector in a brief role in Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy. Actors like Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac and John Boyega are expected to return from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the seventh film in the franchise, along with the likes of Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher.
Star Wars: Episode VIII is to be helmed by Rian Johnson and is scheduled for release on 26 May 2017. Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theatres on 18 December later this year.
