Toonz Media Group and USA’s Angel Studios to distribute anime-style series ‘Gabriel and the Guardians’

Toonz Media Group has joined hands with USA-based Angel Studios to distribute anime-style fantasy adventure series Gabriel and the Guardians.

Based on the ancient Hebrew text Dead Sea Scrolls, the 13×22” epic fantasy series follows Gabriel, a Celestial Guardian tasked with protecting the Tree Eternal as he remains steadfast in his purpose while even his closest companions falter. He never loses hope, never gives up, and firmly believes in the untapped potential of others.

Developed by Colossul Studios with animation production by Tiger Animation and pre-production by Robot Playground, the 2D animated series is set in the mythical world of Ara. It is created by Jason Andrew Moody with David Evan Cunningham as showrunner and Albert Francis Moore as production head. The trio boast decades of experience in animation on titles ranging from The Lion King to The Wingfeather Saga.

The series features voice actors Johnny Yong Bosch (Trigun, Bleach, Persona 4, Power Rangers) as Gabriel; Cristina Vee (K-ON!, Pokemon, Bleach, Sailor Moon and Miraculous) as Namay’ah, a cunning and resourceful alchemist-princess; James Arnold Taylor (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Johnny Test, Final Fantasy X and Ratchet & Clank) as Malachros, the main antagonist; and Matt Lanter (Star Wars: Clone Wars and Justice League: Throne of Atlantis) as Nok, a brash and braggadocious Cleric turned Giant Slayer.

“We are thrilled to join hands with Angel Studios to distribute this promising animated series as Gabriel and the Guardians has all the elements to become a globally popular show. The unique blend of high-quality animation, strong characters supported by world recognised voice actors and the global appeal will provide an engaging and entertaining experience,” said Toonz Media Group TV co-production, distribution & syndication division president Bruno Zarka.

“Having the expertise of Bruno and the entire Toonz team to help with the Gabriel project is a blessing. Their reputation and relationships in the anime genre are legendary and we look forward to a thriving distribution partnership,” said Angel Studios distribution strategy and global partnerships EVP Thomas Hughes.

The animated series is designed primarily for viewers aged 13 and above, but can also be co-viewed.
