The year 2015 has been a game-changer for Marvel Comics with the advent of the mini-series Secret Wars and consequently the All New, All Different Marvel mode the American comic publisher has been brandishing about for all of its comics.
In all this refashioning, Marvel certainly could not help but revamp their fan-favorite playboy, genius Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man and in early July this year Brian Michael Bendis along with artist David Marquez re-launched an altogether modernized Iron Man with The Invincible Iron Man series post the events of Secret Wars. Barely has the dust settled over The Invincible Iron Man which has hit shelves this month, Marvel recently at the MCM Comic Con London announced the development of multiple new series including another Iron Man saga, The International Iron. This series will be translated and published in more than 20 countries.
Teaming up with Alex Maleev, Bendis has already hinted at the story arc for International Iron Man stating, “Quite a few things have happened to Tony in his life over the last few years that are prime, choice cuts of yummy story to look into Tony’s character in ways we haven’t before.”
Fans updated with the comic-lore would know that Marvel shocked us way back in2013 that Tony was adopted in the issue Iron Man #17 and from the looks of this new Iron Man series we could concur that these new comic pages would be delving deeper into Tony’s life. Among the few story arcs of Tony’s life to be unraveled, would be him finding out his biological parents. “The quest for who he is and why he’s wired the way he is, which is very unique and different,” hinted Bendis.
Bendis also mentioned both The Invincible Iron Man and The International Iron Man would not be totally independent of each other while going on-shelves simultaneously but there would be a connective thread between the two and each would be enhancing the other.
This also means that Doctor Doom, one of the most sinister evil super-villains from the Marvel comic universe who also plays a major role in the Invincible Iron would cast his shadow in the successive International Iron Man series too. “You never know where Dr. Doom’s gonna show up. That’s one of the best parts of Dr. Doom, especially a repentant, but still crazy arrogant, Dr. Doom.” added Bendis.
Apart from fans getting an overdose of Iron Man in the coming months, Marvel also announced the launch of new series including The Punisher from writer Becky Cloonan and artist Steve Dillon, Hyperion led by writer Chuck Wendig and X-Men: Worst X-Man Ever illustrated by Michael Walsh.
