Body-swaps, court intrigue and a villainess with a twist are stepping into the spotlight as Toho has unveiled the English dub trailer for Though I Am an Inept Villainess, giving fans their first taste of the series’ English-language cast in action.
The fantasy drama, which began streaming on 26 July via Crunchyroll, Hulu, Disney+ and Netflix across Asia, takes the well-worn villainess trope and flips it on its head. At the heart of the story is Kou Reirin, a beloved noblewoman whose life is turned upside down when she is magically swapped into the body of the disgraced Shu Keigetsu. One body-swap later, the imperial court is thrown into chaos.
Leading the English cast is Brianna Knickerbocker, known for Re- Starting Life in Another World, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and Genshin Impact, as Reirin. Rebecca Wang (Solo Leveling, Street Fighter 6, Fate/strange Fake) lends her voice to Keigetsu.
The supporting line-up packs plenty of star power. Kaiji Tang voices Ei Gyoumei, while Aleks Le takes on the role of Shin-u. Lizzie Freeman joins as Leelee, and Hololive English -myth- VTuber Mori Calliope steps into the recording booth as Kou Tousetsu, adding another headline-grabbing name to the roster.
Behind the scenes, the series is directed by Mitsue Yamasaki, with Yoshiko Nakamura handling series composition, Ai Kikuchi overseeing character designs and Yukari Hashimoto composing the score. Animation duties are handled by Doga Kobo.
The music line-up is equally sharp. Singer-songwriter milet performs the opening theme Sunny, while Rokudenashi delivers the ending theme Shooting Star.
The Japanese-language version debuted earlier this season, but with the English dub now entering the fray, Toho is giving global audiences another reason to dive into its palace of secrets, schemes and switched identities.
One thing is clear: in Though I Am an Inept Villainess, nobody stays in their lane or even in their own body for long.
