Ushering in the New Year is children’s favourite comic book Tinkle which is still in its salad days this year after witnessing a 35 per cent increase in subscription in 2014. For 2015, it has a host of exciting themes planned which will be unveiled with each issue of the popular magazine.
Kicking off the first month of the year is the theme ‘Weird and Wonderful’ which will take kids to the exiting world of the unknown. The edition will also see several new additions into the comic book.
“The characters will go on some weird and zany adventures in January, including Suppandi (who is kidnapped by a witch), Tantri (who turns Hooja into a chicken) and SuperWeirdos (where Aisha is being stalked),” said Tinkle editor Rajani Thindiath to AnimationXpress.com.
Shunning the speech bubbles is the new entrant into the digest called Lakki Lakhan. Written by Sean D’mello and illustrated by Ghanshyam Bochgeri, it will follow the adventures of the mighty Lakki Lakhan as he goes about trying to save the world in his own inimitable style.
Readers who have always been curious to ask questions to the magazine about their favourite characters now have a way to do so. Starting this month, a one page ‘Tinkle Talk Show’ will appear with kids’ questions and the characters’ answers. “The show has Kooki (the dog) putting the spotlight on the Tinkle Toons. He gets answers to questions readers have always wanted to know such as, ‘What is your dream job, Suppandi?’ The most interesting questions will feature in the section and the ‘Tinkle Talk Show’ will continue as long as readers have questions for their toons,” added Rajani.
These aren’t the only new additions to Tinkle. Tinkle is going the extra mile to connect with the readers and get them to be actively involved in the book. For the first time, it will be introducing ‘The Tinkle Awards’ which will allow readers to vote for their favourite Tinkle toon and story from the previous year.
The voting period is from 1 January 2015 to 28 February 2015 and the winners will be announced in the April edition of Tinkle. Voting can be done either by selecting on the page designed in the book and posting it or also by casting it online on www.tinkleonline.com/tinkleawards.
The judging will be done by an in house team and will not just depend on the number of votes a character gets or who votes, but mainly on the best completion of the sentence ‘I love Tinkle because…’ in not more than 140 alphabets.
“A gorgeous new Tinkle Planner 2015 features mini gags of all our Tinkle Toons. While the all new Tinkle Awards allows readers win loads of prizes. On offer are prizes worth Rs 70000 to be won,” expounded Rajani.
Tinkle comics is a 72-page monthly magazine, priced at Rs 40. Every issue is a combined effort of the Tinkle team of writers and artists with contribution from the young readers with Fan Fiction, funny incidents, as well as poems and Fan Art for its Rhythm and Hues segment.
