As we all know, 8 March marks an important day as we celebrate and showcase our love for women and honour their contributions to the society. AnimationXpress had written about ‘The Wo(W)men of the Indian comic industry’ which talked about Tinkle’s editor Rajani Thindiath’s contribution in the children’s comic industry. And now at an event aimed at inspiring women and celebrating their achievements, Rajani was honoured with the ‘Sahitya Ratna Sammaan’ by the Writers and Journalists Association, Ladies Wing (WAJAL).
The award was presented on the occasion of International Women’s Day at Mumbai University. Rajani who’s an amazingly talented woman in the comics industry who has been enriching kids and adults with her creative work, received the award for her contribution towards Children’s Literature. WAJAL works in the field of cultural, literary and social causes and aims to encourage literary achievement.
“It is an honour to be chosen for this award. I was glad to see the delight in my parents’ eyes when I took the trophy home. A hug to them for awakening the bookworm in me and a ‘Thank You’ to Uncle Pai and Luis Fernandes who gave me the opportunity to spin yarns. And a huge shout-out to my super talented team and the super enthusiastic Tinkle readers who keep us going with their love and encouragement” said Rajani Thindiath
Rajani joined Tinkle which was started back in April 1980 by the late Uncle Pai, in 2007 as an Assistant Editor and in 2011 she got promoted as the Editor and gave Tinkle a new life and flavour. Tinkle is a unique brand with a successful 35-year-old track record of creating endearing proprietary characters and stories with rajani adding Super Weirdos and A.L.I.E.N.S in the array.
We congratulate Rajani on this joyous occasion and convey our best wishes for her future endeavours.
