TIFFCOM 2026 adds four speakers for Japan’s IP expansion session

MUMBAI: Japanese IP is stepping out of the TV frame and into a much bigger world. TIFFCOM 2026 has added four new speakers to its Japan’s IP Frontier 2026: Beyond Broadcasting session, which will examine how Japanese media companies are taking content into new businesses, formats and international markets.

TIFFCOM, Asia’s leading content market affiliated with the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF), will hold its 23rd edition from October 28 to 30 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center HAMAMATSUCHO-KAN.

Organised by the Broadcast Program Export Association of Japan (BEAJ), the special session will take place on October 29 from 13:00 to 14:15 at Conference A. It will focus on business opportunities beyond traditional media and borders, with six Japanese companies showcasing different approaches to expanding intellectual property (IP) globally.

The newly announced speakers are Tokio Omori, Production Division Producer at TV TOKYO Corporation; Seitaro Tonka, CCO at YAMI inc.; Atsuhito Kusume, TV Director at Nankai Broadcasting; and Kazuki Yokoi, Contents Sales Producer at CHUKYO TV.

They join Ryohei Aoki, Live Entertainment Department Manager at Fuji Television; Yu Kawanaka, Executive Manager, Content Production Department at San-in Chuo Television Broadcasting Co., Ltd.; and Yuki Akutsu, Director of the Digital Business Department and Editor in Chief at Hokkaido Television Broadcasting.

The session will showcase six different IP expansion projects.

TV TOKYO will discuss how Japanese “fear” was translated for international audiences through its experiential IP Kyofushin Exhibition, which has been exported to Taiwan.

Fuji Television will present how its hit variety show IP Run for Money is moving from the television screen into virtual reality and location-based entertainment (LBE).

San-in Chuo Television will showcase its self-funded Dopamine Project and its plans for worldwide expansion.

Nankai Broadcasting will explain how it developed more than 100 ready-to-air programmes as part of an approach to building a larger library of content assets.

CHUKYO TV will present its latest variety format SAVE MONEY and examine how the format is being positioned to appeal to audiences beyond Japan.

Hokkaido Television Broadcasting will meanwhile highlight its one-year-old Local Content Bank, a lineup of locally produced content being prepared for international markets.

Ikuo Ichiki, Chief Executive of Business Management at BEAJ, will serve as MC, while Aki Harazono, Executive Director at BEAJ, will moderate the session.

The session reflects a broader shift in how Japanese broadcasters are looking at IP, not simply as programmes to export, but as assets that can be adapted into experiences, formats, content libraries and new commercial opportunities across borders.

With four additional speakers now joining the previously announced line-up, TIFFCOM 2026 is set to put the business of taking Japanese IP beyond the broadcast screen firmly in focus.
