Playing video games has always been related to having fun but playing them in moderation is the way to enjoy them to the fullest. Sometimes binge playing can lead to death and the same has happened to a 32 year Taiwanese man named Hseish.
Hseish, a 32 year-old man was found dead in an internet café following a three day internet binge. Emergency services were called to the cafe, based in Kaohsiung, after an employee discovered a customer was slumped over his desk motionless.
Hseish was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead due to a cardiac failure. Police say that it is likely that he died several hours before discovery, due to how stiff his corpse had become.
Cold temperatures and exhaustion from the extensive hours playing games are likely to have contributed to Hsieh’s cardiac arrest, a police statement read.
Gamers sitting in the cafe continued as if nothing happened when paramedics arrived, according to police spokesperson Jennifer Wu.
Wu added that Hsieh had been “unemployed for a long time, and internet cafes were the only place he could go to.”
“His family said he would disappear for two to three days on end.”
Hseish’s death is already the second to occur in a Taiwan internet cafe this year, according to CNN. On 1 January, a 38 year-old man was found dead at an internet cafe in Taipei, apparently after playing video games for five days straight.
In the past too there have been instances of deaths while binge playing in Taiwan where an 18 year old boy died while playing Diablo III for 40 hours at a stretch.
This is certainly a lesson that one must learn that, when the ‘Game Over’ sign comes up on the monitor… think over that do you really want to complete the level at the cost of your health?
