Paramount Pictures, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures and Skydance recently released the first trailer, poster and pictures from its forthcoming Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins.
The film featuring Henry Golding as Snake Eyes, a tenacious loner who is welcomed into an ancient Japanese clan called the Arashikage after saving the life of their heir apparent, is all set to release 23 July 2021. On arrival in Japan, the Arashikage teaches Snake Eyes the ways of the ninja warrior, while also providing something he’s been longing for: a home.
However, when secrets from his past are spilled, Snake Eyes’ honor and allegiance will be tested – even if that means losing the trust of those closest to him. Based on the iconic G.I. Joe character, Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins also stars Andrew Koji as Storm Shadow, Úrsula Corberó as The Baroness, Samara Weaving as Scarlett, Haruka Abe as Akiko, Tahehiro Hira as Kenta and Iko Uwais as Hard Master.
The trailer does not give away much, but has confirmed that the film will explore Snake Eyes’ relationship with Storm Shadow (Andrew Koji); how the two of them met and how their brotherly relationship fell apart.
While speaking about the film, Golding told Collider, “Snakes Eyes isn’t a superhero film.” He revealed that the film is loaded with Easter eggs for the fans, and how the ending of the film “is truly the beginning. You will be left wanting for more and yearning for the expansion of this universe.”
The film is directed by Robert Schwentke, and executive produced by David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Jeff G. Waxman, and Greg Mooradian. Producers are Brian Goldner, Erik Howsam, Lorenzo di Bonaventura.
The film is based on Hasbro’s G.I. Joe characters, with story by Evan Spiliotopoulos, with Spiliotopoulos and Anna Waterhouse and Joe Shrapnel doing the screenplay.
There are fantastical action sequences featuring bullets and swords in the trailer which are enhanced by VFX. The VFX of the movie, according to IMDB, are made by MR X, Clear Angle Studios, Halon Entertainment and MPC.
The movie is set to release on 23 July 2021.
