The Simpsons get killed by Rick and Morty

The Simpsons have had some major crossovers this season with Family Guy and Futurama both being featuring in the longest running adult animated show. Season 26’s finale too is going to have a crossover albeit a mini one.

Jim Roiland and Dan Harmon created Rick and Morty, the 80’s sci-fi Adult Swim spoof are the new entrants into the Springfield world. Ricky a mad drunken scientist and Morty his teenage grandson traverse dimension to different worlds and get into trouble rather find ways to get into trouble.

The couch gag starts with the rather a short version of The Simpsons usual theme with the family members sitting on the couch. Then BAAM!! The duo arrives in spaceship crashing through Simpsons living room accidentally melting Homer, Marge, Lisa, Bart and Maggie. An end to The Simpsons!

No worries, as the universe travelers reproduce the family although not in the correct form with the promo ending with Bart blurting that the show should not have guest animators anymore. That’s not all. The preview also reveals information on Rick and Morty Season 2 which will premiere on 26 July on Cartoon Network.

In a press release, Matt Groening said, “This couch gag plays like a full-fledged mini-episode,” and that, “it’s going to be a real treat for fans of The Simpsons, fans of Rick And Morty, and fans of animated belching.” Meanwhile, Roiland is so excited about this partnership that he thinks he might be living in a computer simulation, using his space in the press release to tell people to “look up simulation theory” because “that would explain how this happened.”

“We are honored and blown away to be a part of The Simpsons,” Roiland said in a statement. “If I could go back in time and tell myself that this would happen, I’d be like ‘No way, Jose!’ I simply can’t believe it. I think we might all be living in some kind of massive computer simulation to be honest. Look up simulation theory. That would explain how this happened.”

With all the drama around Harry Shearer’s departure from the show and James L. Brooks saying “We tried. We are still trying. Harry, no kidding, let’s talk.” There has been no further word from the actor.
