Everyone’s beloved Archies, the hit comic series is all pumped up to once again spread his charm on television. Not as a sitcom but as a one hour drama, Archie shall also bring Bettie, Veronica, Jughead, Reggie and other friends to TV.
This live action series titled as Riverdale, will witness the first openly gay character in Archies, Kevin Keller, outside the pages of comics. The series will be produced by none other than Greg Berlanti, the mastermind who’s delivered the hit comic adapted TV series like Arrow, Flash and Legends of Tomorrow and is set to launch on The CW.
Set in the present, the series offers a bold take on Archie, Betty, Veronica and their friends exploring the essence of small-town life as they also encounter the dark fizz beneath Riverdale’s good disguise. The series will also showcase the love triangle of Archie Andrews, girl-next-door Betty Cooper and rich socialite Veronica Lodge and will include the entire cast of characters from the comic books including Archie’s rival Reggie Mantle and best friend Jughead Jones. The other characters from Archie Comics’ friendly library shall also appear including Josie and the Pussycats. Apart from this the popular gay character Kevin Keller also will play a pivotal role.
Warner Bros. TV is producing along with Berlanti Prodsw while the script is written by Archie Comics, chief creative officer, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. Aguirre-Sacasa will exec produce with Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Jon Goldwater. It is expected to be on air by fall of 2016.
