‘The LEGO Movie’ and ‘Interstellar’ bag top honours in Animation & VFX at The BAFTAs

The BAFTA Awards gave The LEGO Movie more reason to smile with a triumphant finale to its awards season by bestowing on it the ‘Best Animated Film’ honor.

Having been ignored for an Oscar nomination despite having won several awards this year for ‘Best Animated Picture’, the film’s directors had a little fun in accepting the honour. “You are our favorite Academy by far,” said Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, on stage. “You guys win the award for best Academy. This is the end of the awards road for us, so we can say whatever we want. There’s no one left to impress.”

Additionally, the award for ‘Best Special/Visual Effects’ went to Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar and the team of Paul Franklin, Scott Fisher, Andrew Lockley and Ian Hunter.

Also worth mentioning was the award for ‘Best British Short Animation’ that went to Chris Hees, Daisy Jacobs and Jennifer Majka for the Oscar-nominated The Bigger Picture.

Now, with only a couple of weeks left for the grandest awards night of all things are really heating up… to say the least!
