The CW has a lot of confidence in its lineup right now, including its newest series Walker. It’s wasting no time in pushing out its renewals for fall 2021, giving its fans numerous treats. As of Wednesday, the network has renewed the majority of its DC-based shows.
As the network plots a return to business as usual during the pandemic, The CW has picked up a dozen series for additional seasons: Newcomer Walker and veterans All American, Batwoman, Charmed, Dynasty, The Flash, In the Dark, Legacies, Legends of Tomorrow, Nancy Drew, Riverdale and Roswell, New Mexico. Five of those (Dynasty, The Flash, In the Dark, Legends and Roswell) are yet to premiere this season.
In addition, it has ordered more episodes of freshman series Walker (five more, 18 total) and the yet to be aired Superman & Lois (two more, 15 total) for this season. The latter debuts on 23 February 2021, with a two-hour event (a 90-minute premiere, followed by a 30-minute behind-the-scenes special).
The CW Network president and CEO Mark Pedowitz said, “We wanted to get a strategic head start on next season with these early renewals, which allows our production teams to start laying out story arcs and hiring staff, and at the same time, continues to provide us with a strong, stable schedule to build on for next season. We are thrilled creatively with the direction of our first new shows out of the gate, Walker and Superman & Lois, that we wanted to order the additional episodes to complete their first seasons, and we are particularly pleased with the huge success of the launch of Walker, which debuted as our most-watched series premiere in five years.”
Pedowitz announced the early renewal of a slate of other titles for the 2021-2022 season, including All American for S4, as well as Charmed S4, Dynasty S5, In the Dark S4, Legacies S4, Nancy Drew S3, Riverdale S6, and Roswell, New Mexico S4, with premiere dates for each new season expected to be announced at a later time.
