Oscars 2024: ‘The Boy and the Heron’ and ‘Godzilla Minus One’ bag the best animated feature film and VFX awards respectively

The Boy and the Heron wins Oscar

Continuing its award-winning spree, The Boy and the Heron grabbed the best animated feature film Oscar at the 96th Academy Awards. The film by Studio Ghibli director Hayao Miyazaki defeated other movies in this category which included Elemental, Nimona, Robot Dreams and Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse.

Released in Japan as Kimitachi wa Do Ikiruka (translated as How Do You Live), the The Boy and the Heron is an original story written and directed by Miyazaki, produced by Studio Ghibli co-founder Toshio Suzuki, and features a musical score from Miyazaki’s long-time collaborator Joe Hisaishi.

The winner of the animated short film category is War Is Over! Inspired By The Music Of John & Yoko. In the visual effects category, Godzilla Minus One directed by Takashi Yamazaki, Kiyoko Shibuya, Masaki Takahashi and Tatsuji Nojima emerged as the winner.
